Diet Coke + Sprite = Ginger Ale

Becki taught me a neat trick. If you mix Diet Coke with Sprite, it looks and tastes just like ginger ale! Now, every time I go to the dining hall, I can’t seem to stop myself from doing it. I guess it gives me some sense of accomplishment or something :-). Apparently, if someone asks you for some ginger ale and you give them this, they won’t know the difference!

My estimation is one part Diet Coke to six or seven parts Sprite. Here is my crude ASCII rendition:

~~~~~~~~~~
Sprite ----> |          |
----------
    unfortunately, i later discovered that this isn’t ENTIRELY true. i went to cheeseburger in paradise last week, and ordered a ginger ale. on the third refill, the waitress gave me coke and sprite, and i could totally tell. however, i’m pretty sure this was only because (a) i’d already been drinking ginger ale and my palate was sensitive to it and (b) i was already looking out for it to see if she’d try it. it’s still a pretty good trick though.
    Some people are allergic or reactive to the artifical sweetener in diet coke (like me! it upsets my stomach, even in very small amounts), so even if they couldn’t tell the difference via taste, they might well tell the difference if they reacted to it.
    well dang… it’s still fun, though.. and yeah, since you had just been drinking actual ginger ale, it makes sense that the difference was apparent. and a lot of different ginger ale brands taste a lot different, too.. so i guess it’s all relative.. at any rate, thanks for teaching me the trick! i’m still doing it…
    @hel
    yikes, that’s interesting… i wasn’t aware of that many people are allergic to that. this trick seems to be a fairly common practice among waitresses, so be careful if you ever order a ginger ale!
    hahh, what? you don’t think i’m ready to join a… erm, respectable organization and design their… text files that are… mmm, packaged with their… distributions?
    *shrug* I doubt anyone is deathly allergic to it, or at least not many people. I’m not actually a big fan of the taste of ginger ale anyhow. (tho I adore ginger itself!) So I’m not too likely to order it while out someplace anyway. If I ever do tho, I’ll try to remember to ask the waitress if it’s real ginger ale or this trick. Probably forget tho, I always forget to ask if things have MSG in them, and I’m a lot more allergic to that.
